Sleeping up to 16 in 2 rooms, the barn is in a quiet location overlooking a small paddock and Eller Beck.

Goathland village is a 15 minute stroll away along the farm road or on a path across fields.

 

DIRECTIONS TO THE BUNKHOUSE

Follow the directions from our map links to find the farm. Turn left at the campsite fields and travel down the access track to the railway bridge. Please call at the farmhouse or cottage to register on arrival, before taking occupancy.

Set in a farm of about 20 hectares in the heart of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park it is an ideal base for walking, cycling or simply relaxing on the farm or in the village of Goathland, a few minutes walk away.

Accommodation is provided by a converted stone built barn, on two floors, approximately 16m long, 5m wide. Included is a lounge with solid fuel stove for heating and hot water.  Gas central heating, equipped kitchen, dining room, two first floor dormitories; one sleeping 12 and one sleeping 4.  Reception and drying room in the adjoining barn  along with cloakroom facilities consisting of one shower room/wc/whb, one shower room, and one wc/whb cubicle. Adjacent paddock available for additional tents if required. Occupants guide available from the leaflet rack in the lounge area.  No television.

 

The farm is a mix of arable and livestock.  Access to viewpoints on our fields along the railway can be made by arrangement.  Please do not trespass on the railway.

Goathland is served by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (ten minutes walk from the farm), which runs along the valley from Grosmont, south to Pickering, a small but busy market town. There is a rail connection to Whitby from Grosmont.  NYMR brochure available.

THINGS TO DO AND PLACES TO VISIT (also see our EVENTS pages).

 

Walk or cycle, take a moors bus, or ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway through the National Park, all within easy reach. There are numerous circular walking routes around Goathland.

 

WALKS: Abbots House is just under 2 miles north of the Lyke Wake Walk at Eller Beck bridge.  The Cleveland Way is on the coast at Robin Hoods Bay about 7 miles east, via footpaths.  The Coast to Coast walk passes through Grosmont, about 3 miles north of Goathland, via the Muir Esk valley footpaths or railway.

 

GOATHLAND Small village with Post Office, General store, tea-rooms and small hotels.  Several hotels are fully licensed and offer lunches, evening meals and bar snacks. Used for location filming for ‘HEARTBEAT’ and ‘HARRY POTTER’

 

WHITBY  9 miles Historic port, wide beaches, indoor pool, shops, seaside entertainment. Saturday market.

 

PICKERING  12 miles Market town (Mondays), castle, trout fishing lake, museums.

 

SCARBOROUGH  25 miles Seaside resort.  Theatres, large selection of shops, swimming pools, theatres and more. Thursday markets.

 

YORK  40 miles Walled city, Minster, Jorvik Viking centre, National Railway Museum, Restaurants, large selection of shops, daily markets. River cruises and tour buses.

 Deposit of £50 is required for whole building let, and full payment is due one month before arrival.

Provisional bookings made by phone will be cancelled after seven days, unless payment in full is received.

 

SORRY: Accommodation is not suitable for infants.  Pets not allowed – shared facility!

OCCUPANCY CONDITIONS

 

IMPORTANT: 

ALL BOOKINGS MUST BE PAID FOR IN ADVANCE.

FAMILY FACILITY.  SCOUT GROUPS / DUKE OF EDINBURGH AWARD GROUPS WELCOME.

NO SINGLE SEX GROUPS AGED UNDER 25 PERMITTED, UNLESS ACCOMPANIED BY A RESPONSIBLE ADULT / SUPERVISOR / MANAGER.

 

 

THE BARN OPENS AT 5 PM

THE BARN CLOSES AT 10 AM THE FOLLOWING MORNING.

Single occupancy and whole building let occupancy times are the same.  If you require daytime occupancy (whole building let), the barn must be booked for the night before and the night after (2 nights whole building let).

 

Self catering plus!  YOU NEED TO BRING: Bedding, tea towels, cleaning materials for wash-up / kitchen cleaning and personal use.

Each person is personally responsible for cleaning up after themselves; please leave the barn clean and tidy as you found it. Please ensure the bins are emptied and personal rubbish removed from the building.  The stove must be cleaned out, and all lights and electrical apparatus switched off before departure.

 

A ten pound refundable key deposit is required on arrival.  Please call at the farmhouse to collect a key.

Collection times between 5pm and 9pm only.
