HOW TO GET TO GOATHLAND BY PUBLIC TRANSPORT

By Train

From most locations, except parts of north-east England, the fastest route to Abbot’s House Farm by public transport will be travelling by train to Malton and changing onto Yorkshire Coastliner bus route 840 to Goathland. For door-to-door public transport journey planning we recommend Traveline Yorkshire. Our location is Goathland or YO22 5NH.

Our nearest railway stations are Malton, which is on the York – Scarborough line, and Sleights and Grosmont, which are on the Middlesbrough – Whitby line. Grosmont is also on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.

First TransPennine Express operates train services from Liverpool, Manchester, Leeds and York to Scarborough. This provides good connections from train services on the West and East Coast Main Lines. At Malton the train connects to Yorkshire Coastliner bus route 840 to Goathland.

Northern Rail operates train services from Darlington and Middlesbrough to Whitby. At Sleights and Whitby the train connects to Yorkshire Coastliner bus route 840 to Goathland. At Grosmont the train connects to North Yorkshire Moors Railway steam train services to Goathland Station.

Tickets can be purchased separately, or alternatively some bookings to “Whitby Bus” which involve changing in York will allow a combined rail and bus ticket to be purchased, although this combined ticket is not always the cheapest option. You must travel on Yorkshire Coastliner bus route 840, because the similar X40 does not serve Goathland.

For National Rail journey planning and ticket purchase we recommend the National Express East Coast website, which gives a 10% discount on tickets involving their trains.
